Spaces designed around the concept of hospitality and leisure-time quality are the hallmarks of Villa Meo Evoli. In Contrada Cozzana, locality Sant'Oceano, set amidst softly rounded hills with a distant view of the sea and blessed by a mild climate, Villa Meo Evoli dates back to the second half of the 18th century and is a worthy testimonial to the life and times of that period. Villa Meo Evoli was built at the wish of the nobleman from Salerno Vito Giuseppe Martinelli (1758-1833); he was the first member of the family to move from Mola to Monopoli where he set up a trading business in draperies, silks and oil and wine. According to oral tradition, the family was originally from Veneto. The bountiful farmland (producing grains, olives and wine) led to the development of large estates, whose noble owners contributed to the flowering of the farming economy and built their patrician homes there. Built in the Venetian style, Villa Meo Evoli distinguishes itself from the classic "masseria" (farmhouse). It offers a varied, multifaceted ambience, dedicated to the enjoyment of life in all its aspects. The loggia, the hanging gardens and the classic garden counterpoint the frescoes on the barrel-vaulted ceilings and the walls, which depict nature themes with a delicate touch and soft colours. Harmony and tranquillity are the distinguishing features of this residence, inviting its guests to experience inner calmness and serenity in a place which both sooths and delights the senses. At the same time, the Villa is an ideal setting for enjoying the pleasures of social life. Its Venetian rococo furnishings are both pleasing to the eye and designed to ensure comfort and foster conviviality.
